Tetris Didn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category Could Fix That

Whenever a prominent awards ceremony draws close, one notices a demand for introducing fresh award types to recognize underappreciated efforts and fill the passions of followers dedicated to specific genres.

Another commentator has already made supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. Equally deserving are board games, which is someone's personal cause. However, I must insist when I prioritize just as with other single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request is the most urgent above others. This is the request: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Organizing artistic expressions is not a science; opinions vary greatly, and it will always start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. This explains why cinema institutions don’t do it. But it is an unavoidable compromise for the industry of video games, which are so diverse they hardly constitute one unified medium.

To recognize the complete range of gaming accomplishments to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.

Present Award Structure

The major gaming awards offer these award types recognizing Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these award types effectively encompass a lot of ground, and you can find room for most games within them.

Different situation exists for brain-teasing titles. No suitable classification appears to accommodate them. Think about these outstanding current releases, all very different: the architectural riddles from a specific release, the pulse-pounding block-matching from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles from additional release. Where could they possibly go between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits.

Recognition Challenges

Numerous examples exist of brilliant puzzle games published annually without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match award groups including Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the intensely contested Indie races.

  • A renowned logic title received no recognition completely during that awards season
  • Another creative title was excluded during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked that year
  • Just some brain-teasers scraped into niche award types

Importance of Logic Titles

Frequently they represent small games, but the art in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Well-known matching games stand as most engaged experiences in the world maintaining this status for over a decade.

The famous puzzle experience competes with well-known building titles for the title of highest-selling title ever; it also contends for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones for gaming as medium, and engaging with almost every other genre.

Proposal and Rationale

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter this problem. It would be easy to populate multiple candidates interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, given the need to exclude many worthy titles.

Restating the point, these include experiences without proper classification in important events. Puzzle game makers are working at the hard edge interactive creation, creating some of essential manifestations of gaming itself. Just like film action specialists, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting 35 years.
